Many products are designed in different sizes or variants, where the structure and functionality remain fundamentally the same. Often, models can be determined with a few input parameters, because a large part of the dimensions can be derived from them through proportional dependence or standard increments. A common example of this is keyway slots or thread sizes that match the shaft diameter.

A frequently useful solution is, for example, a redundancy-free top-down skeleton model with derivations (Inventor) or InterPart links (Solid Edge).

Family tables and individual design features

Both Autodesk Inventor and Solid Edge offer the possibility to create part families of adaptive components. Different variants can then be generated by entering table rows in the catalog, which often saves a lot of time. R‑Kon supports you in the appropriate setup of the parts and the configuration of the families.

Inventor also allows frequently used feature groups to be saved as iFeature. This allows the entire group to be placed as a single cohesive feature in models with just a few inputs.
